Where will the funds go?

The Hardship Fund is focused on supporting students who find themselves in immediate financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic. It will help with unexpected financial problems, such as losing part time work; unexpected travel costs; access to technology; or accommodation assistance.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments through the Essex Hardship website will be securely processed by Stripe ( and Stripe US (

Why is my payment not going through?

Please check that you have included your postcode in both the address field and the card details field of the gift form. If there is still a problem you may have to contact your card provider and inform them that the payment is valid. For any queries please contact us at

Can I see my gift on this website?

Yes! If you’ve chosen not to make your gift anonymous, you can take a look at the donor wall to see your name.

How do I know my data is secure?

We take your privacy very seriously. Our Privacy Policy ( shows how we will use your data, what our responsibilities are under GDPR and your rights. We are regulated by the Fundraising Regulator, and our Fundraising Code of Practice ( sets out how we fundraise in a transparent and ethical manner.

Is there another way to donate to you other than online?

Can I Gift Aid my donation?

Yes! All donations through the Essex Hardship website are able to have Gift Aid applied. This means, if you are a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your gift by 25% at no extra cost to yourself.
